Bangkok is a huge sprawling city which might seem overwhelming and confusing to visitors, but can be a real gem, if planning and patience are a part of your visit! Bangkok has a lot to offer, including ancient culture, cheap shopping, a hopping nightlife, and tantalizing food to tingle your taste buds! There are plenty of options for where to stay, including cheap hotels and hostels as well as more reined hotels – choose what is more your style and enjoy.

When it comes to culture, Bangkok has many options to enjoy and learn about. A great place to start is the Grand Palace, where you can begin to get a taste of Thai culture and history. Remember you need to dress appropriately and respectfully when visiting here. You will get to see a collection of palaces and temples which were once reserved only for the royal family and invited guests, now open for you to see. Two other must see attractions include the Erawan Shrine – aka the Wishing Temple, and Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Ratchaworamahawihan (Wat Pho). Both are traditional temples which will open your heart and mind to the ancient culture and religion of the locals.

Of course, you don’t want to miss out on the cheap shopping while you are in Bangkok, so make sure to think about what you are looking for, or you might be overwhelmed and spend more Bhatt then you planned! Some great shopping places to visit include the Mah Boon Krong (MBK) Shopping Center and the Chatuchak Weekend Market. The MBK is air-conditioned and offers a more western-style to enjoy and look around. However, the Chatuchak market is a winding maze through alleys and streets which will offer traditional shopping and cheaper prices, but you will have to tone up your bargaining skills!

Bangkok is known for its great nightlife. You can find many different places to eat and have a few drinks, such as the Woodstock in Watthana or the Saxophone Pub in Phaya Thai. If you are looking for something more exciting you will want to check out a dinner cruise on the Chao Praya River or visit a go-go club. Just remember to find out if the dancers are ladies or ladyboys, if that’s important to you. You can also hit up a disco, one great place to really dance and have fun is the Overdoze – which offers free drinks with entrance fee!

Don’t forget to eat some local food while in Bangkok because you are sure to enjoy! Some tasty dishes that you can find at the many Thai restaurants include Tom Yum Goong, Pad Thai, Tom Kha Kai, and Pak Boong! Remember to tell the waiter the spice level you can handle, so that you can enjoy your food and not have a fire in your mouth!
